Who We Are
SCIFI is an active professional
organization of insurance fraud investigators, law enforcement, fire service and other allied personnel who share a common goal: combating insurance fraud. Our organizational objectives are to promote cooperation among the various entities associated with fighting insurance fraud, providing industry leading education and training, developing greater public awareness of insurance fraud related problems, encouraging high professional standards of conduct among the various involved entities, and supporting legislation that supports or augments efforts to deter insurance related crimes.
President’s Message
First of all, I would like to give thanks to the SCIFI Board Members, Committee Members and SCIFI attendees for a great 2009 Annual Conference held in Mount Pleasant, SC. Investigator DZ Patterson, Travelers Insurance, Investigator Kenny Mash, GEICO Insurance and Investigator Darrel Fulmer, GEICO Insurance provided excellent presentations on Heavy Equipment, Motorcycle and Recreational Vehicle investigations. Allison Dean Love of the SC Insurance News Service presented media clips demonstrating the partnership between fraud investigators here in SC working with citizens whom provided information via the Arson Hotline. Please remember the SC Insurance News Service is a valuable resource in reaching out to large numbers of individuals who work together to combat insurance fraud. Mr. John Potterfield with the SC Attorney General's Office presented information on recent criminal cases his office investigated and prosecuted.
Special thanks are expressed to the three Service Award winners: Mrs. Shelia Cochran, Colleton County Fire and Rescue, Mr. Danny Remion, SLED and Ms. Cindy Zamora, Sentry Insurance. These individuals, along with numerous others investigators assisted in identifying, investigating, and prosecuting suspects involved in staged accident rings in Colleton County, SC. Mrs. Cochran, Investigator Remion and Investigator Zamora conducted a panel review during the conference detailing the information that lead to convictions in this case. This information will assist each of us in looking for similar schemes during our investigations.
As the 2010 President of SCIFI, I look forward to serving this organization to the best of my ability. In reviewing our Mission Statement, I would like to emphasize several phrases that I feel need to be focused on in 2010; industry leading training, public awareness and high professional standards. These are not tasks that can be performed by a select few individuals. I will call on all members of SCIFI to provide information within these areas along with feedback on the direction of SCIFI in 2010. As world events occur, individuals are looking for easy targets that will maximize their profit. Each of our companies and agencies have hired us to combat these crimes. To reach this one goal; we must focus on the mission at hand. SCIFI is a great resource that benefits us all. I will be reaching out to individuals in the coming weeks and asking you to take a role in our organization. Please contact me with any comments or inquiries.
